Sickness Guidelines

Vienna District #55 prioritizes the health, safety and confidentiality of all of our students when protecting students and staff against contagious disease.

A child should remain at home if any of the following symptoms exist:

  • Illness that keeps the child from participating comfortably in daily routines

  • Acute cold-discharging nose, swollen glands, and or sore throat

  • Fever of 100 degrees or higher

  • Diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • General weakness, listlessness, or drowsiness

  • Pink eye, and or white or yellow discharge from the eye

In order to return to school, a child must:

  • Be fever free (less than 100 degrees) for 24 hours without the influence of fever-reducing

    drugs (i.e., Tylenol or Ibuprofen, etc.)

  • Be vomit free for 24 hours

  • Be diarrhea free for 24 hours

  • Be treated 24 hours for pink eye

  • Be treated at least 12 hours with antibiotics for strep throat

  • Be treated 24 hours for impetigo

  • Have all lesions from chicken pox dried and crusted

  • Have all lesions from any Staph dried, covered and health care provided proctored

  • Be completely nit and lice free

Head Lice

  • Vienna Grade School maintains a strict no-nit policy.

  • Any child found to have head lice or nits (eggs) will be sent home immediately for treatment.

  • Re-entry to school requires clearance by the school nurse indicating the child is free of nits or lice.
